Increased Professionalism
 | Currently, Wisconsin State Statute provides that peace officers or private security officers working for a third party agency (private investigation agency) require only an occupational license to provide services. This occupational license's only requirements are a clean Wisconsin criminal record (relating to security services) and no active taxes owed to the state. No training requirement is required, and frequently security companies offer no standardized training in private protection or enforcement of law. WPPSA seeks to change this by creating a standardized training course for WI peace officers and citizens engaging in private security details. |
Police and Security: Different Fields, Different Tactics
 | The enforcement of law differs from the protection of persons and property on several aspects. Law Enforcement Officers are trained to enforce laws through their police powers. Security Officers, even Law Enforcement Officers moonlighting, are required to learn and retain skills as varied as safety inspections, fire panel and other life safety device operation, and other non-law enforcement related skills. The WPPSA seeks to create a standardized training course for WI peace officers engaging in private security tasks to ensure that those officers are comfortable with their change from public police to private police. | |
